Pat Thompson
SFAC Liaison
I am a native Californian born after WW2 into a military family with my father stationed in San Diego. I graduated from San Diego State University with a BA and Masters in Public Administration. After a 35 year career as a City Manager in California and Nevada, I retired in Napa, California. The vistas of the wine growing region and the deserts of the Southwest were ever on my mind, and so I became interested in painting. I took watercolor lessons for a few years from Kerry Van Dyke who taught small classes in McKinley Park.
I have done most of my work “in studio” painting landscapes, flowers, hummingbirds, and a vintage trailer or two from photographs. After my teacher moved away, I joined WASH. I have been a member for approximately 3 years. I enjoy taking classes and attending demonstrations. Mostly, I enjoy seeing the wonderful paintings by the membership in the various shows. I have encouraged both of my adult daughters to experiment in watercolor painting as their work schedules allow. Dabbling in art made our trip together two years ago to Paris very memorable and educational.
I am the first to admit that I am not an accomplished painter, but I continue to improve. I was happy to offer my assistance to BJ Taylor, our WASH President, in her search for a Liaison with the Sac Fine Arts Board. Still learning the names and places that I need to be.
