Open Board Positions

The Watercolor Artists of Sacramento Horizons (WASH) is seeking enthusiastic members to join our Board and support key organizational roles. Whether you’re interested in event planning, community outreach, or supporting fellow artists, there’s a place for you. We welcome new energy, fresh ideas, and shared responsibilities. Secretary
The Secretary is responsible for recording and maintaining minutes for both Board and General Membership meetings. A summary report is presented to the Board each month. Additional duties may vary based on the Secretary’s interests and availability. This role is a great opportunity to stay closely involved in WASH activities and help ensure smooth communication within the organization.

Show Chair(s)
WASH organizes two major exhibitions each year: the Member Show and the Open Show. The Show Chair(s) coordinates the full show process, including:

  • Scheduling with SFAC
  • Selecting jurors/judges
  • Announcing the show
  • Overseeing the application process
  • Arranging awards and producing a show catalog
  • Accepting entries and facilitating the jury process
  • Hanging artwork in the gallery
  • Planning and managing the show reception

The Chair(s) leads and oversees these efforts, with support from a committee of volunteers. This position may be shared, so you do not need to do it all alone—we’re happy to divide responsibilities and guide new volunteers. Even helping with just one part of the show makes a big difference!

Workshop Chair
WASH typically hosts two workshops each year, featuring well-known artists. Traditionally held in person over 3–4 days at SFAC, this role is evolving to reflect growing interest in online and plein air formats.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Securing a venue and date
  • Selecting and booking a qualified artist
  • Negotiating fees and logistics
  • Promoting the workshop
  • Managing registrations and collecting fees
  • Overseeing the event and assisting the artist as needed

This position may also be shared, so you do not need to do it all alone—we’re happy to divide responsibilities and guide new volunteers. It’s a wonderful way to connect with the art community and bring learning opportunities to our members.

Sacramento Fine Arts Center (SFAC) Liaison
As an affiliate of the SFAC, WASH relies on clear communication. The SFAC Liaison attends monthly SFAC Board meetings and provides a brief update to the WASH Board on any relevant discussions. This is a simple but vital role for anyone who enjoys staying connected and informed.

WASH Communications
The Communications Chair helps grow WASH’s presence on social media and beyond. Responsibilities include:

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating with show and workshop chairs
  • Posting timely updates and announcements
  • Reaching out to local art clubs and communities

This position is ideal for someone who understands and effectively utilizes social media.  WASH maintains a presence on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. It is perfect for individuals who enjoy connecting communities, spreading awareness, and championing the importance of WASH.

Scholarship Coordinator
This role helps expand WASH’s scholarship program by increasing participation and generating fundraising opportunities. Responsibilities may include:

  • Coordinating with schools or organizations
  • Promoting scholarship opportunities
  • Engaging potential donors or sponsors
  • Managing the application process

Make a lasting impact by helping support emerging artists.

Board Nominating Committee
Composed of three WASH members, this committee identifies and encourages candidates to serve on the WASH Board. If you’re good at connecting with others and helping build leadership, this is a rewarding and important contribution.
